Richarlison has joked to Douglas Luiz on his Instagram that Aston Villa ‘got lucky’ during their 3-0 win against Everton on Saturday evening.

Dean Smith’s side ran riot against the Toffees, with a second-half blitz helping to seal a much-needed three points for the Midlands side.

Heading into the game, Rafa Benitez was dealt a number of big blows, including Richarlison being absent through injury, alongside the late drop-outs Jordan Pickford and Seamus Coleman.

That didn’t help Everton’s cause because they already had star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin missing.

It was a hard-fought and action-packed game until Leon Bailey was introduced into the action midway through the second half.

But he changed the tide of the game, including supplying an assist and scoring a belting goal.

Luiz was involved in the build-up to the opening goal and it was his first-time pass through to Matty Cash that got the ball rolling for Villa.

And after the game, Luiz posted on Instagram ‘brilliant win’, with Richarlison posting in the comments section to his fellow countryman: ‘got lucky. Hehe.”

Whilst Bailey walked away with the Man of the Match award, Luiz was still one of the top performers on the night, alongside the likes of Tyrone Mings and Jacob Ramsey.

The £15 million player (BBC Sport) was aggressive in winning the ball back, moving the ball in tight situations and playing those key passes forward.

And it was his clever first-time and well-weighted ball to the surging Cash that took the noise levels inside Villa Park to another level yesterday.
