If it wasn’t obvious before, Leeds United have an absolute gem in the form of Joe Gelhardt.
The 19-year-old joined Leeds from Wigan in the summer of 2020 for £1 million.
And that could well prove to be an absolute steal over the coming years because Gelhardt has just dismantled Liverpool’s Under-23 side this afternoon.
The former Latic scored twice in helping Leeds’ Under-23 to a 4-0 victory – and both goals were just a bit special.
First, Gelhardt lobbed Liverpool goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga from the semi-circle to give United a 1-0 lead.
Then, the teenager unleashed a fierce left-footed thump from the guts of 35 yards as it swerved past a helpless Pitaluga.
Here is footage of the brace:
It could and should have got better for Gelhardt, who had the chance to score a memorable hat-trick from the penalty spot.
But the youngster, who won the foul in the first place, fluffed his lines on this occasion and missed the spot-kick, with Pitaluga guessing the right way.
Even with the missed penalty, it was still a magnificent 90 minutes from Gelhardt and no doubt Marcelo Bielsa will be aware of it.
