Paul Merson has described Martin Odegaard’s goal for Arsenal against Burnley today as “phenomenal”, as quoted on Sky Sports News (3:30pm, September 18, 2021).
Odegaard, who returned to Arsenal on a permanent contract from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, scored for the Gunners on the hour mark against Burnley at Turf Moor in the Premier League this afternoon.
It was from a free kick, and former Arsenal star Merson was hugely impressed.
Merson said on Sky Sports News (3:30pm, September 18, 2021): “It’s a phenomenal free kick, bends it with pace and power, and he picks his spot.”

Odegaard spent the second half of last season on loan at Arsenal from Madrid.
The Norway international attacking midfielder is a very good player who showed with his free kick today what he is capable of.
While Odegaard has a big reputation, we have to remember that he is only 22.
Like all young players, Odegaard does and will go through bad spells and will have games where he will struggle.
However, the attacking midfielder is rated very highly, and he has already shown at Arsenal that he can be a big player in manager Mikel Arteta’s side.
Odegaard and Emile Smith Rowe are the two man creative midfielders in the Arsenal team, and both the young players will be massive for the side in the coming weeks and months.
