Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed better Thursday nights, it has to be said.
Last night, Spurs laboured to a 2-2 draw away to Rennes in a Europa Conference League clash.
Despite being pre-match favourites, Tottenham were the ones who looked like losing for much of the game but Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg came off the bench to rescue a point.
Not only did Nuno Espirito Santo’s side drop two points, but they also potentially lost two players.
That’s because Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura both came off injured, with the two wingers being major figures in the Lilywhites’ early-season heroics under Nuno.
And the Portuguese coach himself has said he does not know whether they’ll be fit to face Chelsea on Sunday, but suggested ominous news to Football London by saying: “Really painful. Too early to say [for Sunday]. The physios are working with them.”
Major blow
If Bergwijn and Lucas are out, it’s even more bad news for Tottenham.
Remember, Japhet Tanganga is already suspended after his red card against Crystal Palace last weekend, while Eric Dier and Son Heung-min are sidelined as of right now.
That was bad news in itself but, with the Dutch and Brazilian wingers being prominently players for Nuno so far, this is a duo Nuno can’t do without against the European champions.
There is potentially some good news on the horizon regarding Giovani Lo Celso, Davinson Sanchez and Cristian Romero after Sky Sports reported that the South Americans who travelled to red-listed countries during the international break could return to face the Blues.
But without three of their best four attacking players possibly, the odds are still stacked against the Lilywhites if Son, Lucas and Bergwijn are out.
