Juventus want to sell Aaron Ramsey and Tottenham Hotspur target Weston McKennie to fund their bid to beat Liverpool and sign Youri Tielemans from Leicester, per Calciomercato.
Sports Coordinator Federico Cherubini wants to add more new faces to Massimiliano Allegri’s options after signing Manuel Locatelli this summer. The Bianconeri are determined to further rejuvenate their engine room next year, but know they will have to raise funds.
Tielemans and Monaco maestro Aurelien Tchouameni currently top Cherubini’s shopping list for 2022, although signing either could be problematic. Leicester and the Monegasques will be loath to let their Belgian and French stars leave without receiving onerous fees.
Juventus accept they must sell at least two of their surplus to requirement outcasts to sign either Tielemans or Tchouameni. Ramsey and McKennie are among the main options that Cherubini will try to move on in the coming transfer markets.
Juventus’ attempts to sell McKennie to fund their bid to beat Liverpool to Tielemans will likely interest Tottenham. Calciomercato already reported this month that Spurs are preparing a move for McKennie in 2022, after missing out on the American this summer.
Cherubini wants around €30m (£25.5m) for McKennie, who Tottenham may have to beat Aston Villa to sign. A bidding war would further help Juventus’ efforts to edge Liverpool for Tielemans, who The Telegraph note Jurgen Klopp admires but could not afford this year.
That’s because Leicester wanted around £60m-65m for the Belgian, per Fabrizio Romano. The Italian transfer expert adds Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona also want the 24-year-old. Who he admitted to Sky Sports this week he is keeping his options open.
Will Tottenham sign McKennie and Liverpool sign Tielemans in 2022?
Tottenham have invested in their engine room in recent years, but remain in the market with eyes on Juventus’ McKennie. Liverpool have also enjoyed a rejuvenation of Klopp’s midfield, but the German wants Tielemans and lost Georginio Wijnaldum this summer.
Tottenham could thwart Liverpool’s hope of prising Tielemans from Leicester by signing McKennie from Juventus in January or next summer. Although Cherubini’s need to sell two Bianconeri outcasts will likely mean Spurs’ pursuit has little impact on the Reds’ dealings.
Tottenham and Liverpool, then, could both enjoy favourable transfer windows if they sign McKennie and Tielemans. Adding a 23-year-old to Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad who USA boss Gregg Berhalter believes, via The Guardian, is ‘an unbelievable athlete’. And a Belgian to Klopp’s who Brendan Rodgers claims, via Sky Sports, has ‘a wonderful football brain’.
