Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Nuno’s Tottenham have been linked with Phillips this week.

TEAMtalk reported this week that Arsenal and Spurs are among the clubs monitoring Phillips, but Leeds are planning to hand him a new deal which will see him become the highest-paid player at the club.

Neville said about Phillips on Sky Sports Premier League (7:47pm, September 17, 2021): “He came into the Premier League 12 months ago. Now he is the best English midfield player there is, without a shadow of a doubt.

“He is actually a throwback a midfield player who can do everything. He runs, he tackles, he passes, he can defend, honestly, he is fantastic.”

Big praise

Neville, a former England international, is one of the best pundits and analysts around.

The Sky Sports pundit saying that Phillips is the best English midfielder is really huge praise.

There are some other superb English midfielders such as Mason Mount, Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham.

Neville suggesting that Phillips is better than all of them is quite something.

Phillips would make Arsenal or Tottenham much better and more solid in the middle of the park.

But it is impossible that Leeds will sell the 25-year-old in the January transfer window.

If Phillips signs a new deal in the coming months, then Leeds will not even entertain any offers for him next summer.
