ITV has made itself the home of detective dramas in recent years and Grantchester stands out as one of the channel’s most popular efforts.

In 2021, the Robson Green and Tom Brittney-led drama returned for its long-awaited sixth series and each episode has seen them faced with a perplexing new case to solve.

And as ever in a murder mystery, Grantchester welcomes a host of new faces with each new instalment but just who joins the cast for episode 3 of season 6?

Grantchester season 6, episode 3 release date and plot

After season 6 began a few weeks ago, the latest episode of Grantchester arrives on ITV at 9pm on Friday, September 17th.

This week’s episode sees Will and Geordie get dragged into the cut and thrust world of politics following the death of local councillor, Derek McArthur, which prompts an election in town.

Derek’s widow, Reeny McArthur is running for the seat vacated by her late husband but she faces stiff competition from the ambitious entrepreneur Maurice St Martin who has the backing of local businessman Phillip St Martin.

The death of Derek was initially ruled as suicide but Reeny receives evidence that suggests otherwise, giving Geordie and Will another puzzling case to crack.

Guest star spotlight

Rebecca Front as Reeny McArthur

Taking on the role of Derek’s widow and political hopeful, Reeny McArthur, is Rebecca Front.

Rebecca began her career back in 1990 and has become one of the UK’s best-known actresses with over 90 credits to her name.

In recent years, the BAFTA-winning actress has appeared in the likes of Poldark, Avenue 5, Inspector Lewis and The Thick of It.

Jonathan Aris as Robert Waterhouse

Jonathan Aris takes on the role of Robert Waterhouse in episode 3, a local author and an old friend of Reeny’s, who is helping with her election campaign.

Film and TV fans will know Jonathan from a host of roles including The End of the F***ing World, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, as the narrator of Air Crash Investigation and Sherlock where he played sarcastic forensics technician, Anderson.

Will Hislop as Maurice St Martin

Taking on the role of Reeny’s political opponent, Maurice St Martin, is Will Hislop, a relative newcomer to the acting world.

Only making his debut in 2018, Will has appeared in several big-name projects to date including Gangs of London, Military Wives and daytime drama Doctors.

Orlando Wells as Phillip St Martin

And finally, we come to Orlando Wells who plays Maurice’s cousin, Phillip.

Orlando has been appearing on our screens since the 1980s and his credits include roles in ITV’s Belgravia, medical dramas Casualty and Doctors as well as The King’s Speech and Channel 4 comedy-drama As If.
