The feature film adaptation of the musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is about a teenager from Sheffield, England who wants to be a drag queen.

Principal filming took place in England on 24 June 2019, but where were the specific locations?

Fans of the musical are desperate to know where the film has been shot. So let’s explore the filming locations…

Where is Everybody’s Talking About Jamie filmed?

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie was reportedly filmed across Yorkshire including Sheffield and Swinton and Mexborough.

Of course, it makes sense for filming to take place around Yorkshire particularly in Sheffield because it tells a story from outside of London, this is also where the stage show was set.

Jamie Campell who the story is based on grew up in Durham and let BBC Three into his life whilst filming the documentary Jamie: Drag Queen at 16.

For the stage, the setting was moved from Durham to Sheffield, partly to draw a line between Jamie’s reality and the show and this was also replicated in the film.

There have been delays from the official planned release by 20th Century Studios, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Whereby Everybody’s Talking About Jamie was released in select theatres in the United States on 10 September 2021.

However, the streaming release across the world is today, 17 September 2021 via Amazon Studios on Amazon Prime Video.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie explored

Max Harwood plays a Sheffield schoolboy called Jamie New, who wishes to live out his drag queen dreams at prom.

With help from his mum, Margaret aka Sarah Lancashire, his best friend Pritti played by Lauren Patel and a drag queen, Hugo Battersby aka Loco Chanelle or otherwise known as Richard E. Grant, his dreams become reality.

The story is based on Jamie Campbell, who inspired the West-end show and film, following a BBC Three documentary about him in 2011. He exclaimed that it feels surreal for there to be a film made about his story: “I just didn’t think it would get to this point – but now it feels amazing,”
