Rangers are back in Europa League action tonight when they welcome Lyon to Ibrox in the opening game of the group stage – and Gers boss Steven Gerrard looks set to make a number of changes to his side from the weekend win over St. Johnstone.
The Light Blues boss will be without Fil Helander, Ryan Jack and Ianis Hagi through injury but will be able to call on Allan McGregor and Connor Goldson as they return to the fold for Rangers.
After Jon McLaughlin started the weekend win in Perth, Allan McGregor should retake his berth in goal while the back four is likely to be James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Leon Balogun and Borna Barisic.
The absence of Helander – expected to be out of action for months after undergoing knee surgery – means Rangers are spread thin at the back with Academy star Kyle McClelland in line for a spot on the bench.
The midfield trio is likely to remain unchanged from the weekend with Steven Davis, Glen Kamara and Joe Aribo once again tasked with controlling the tempo of the game for Steven Gerrard’s side.
Ahead of them, Gerrard could have some tough decisions to make with Ryan Kent woefully out of form it could see a chance handed to Scott Wright to come into the side and partner Kemar Roofe and Alfredo Morelos in attack.
After reaching the last 16 in both of the last two seasons, Rangers will be aiming for a repeat this time around despite the Europa League undergoing a revamp over the summer.
However, history isn’t on Rangers’ side as they look to pick up on opening day win to kick their campaign off in style, going eight games without a win at home against French opposition.
Rangers predicted XI v Lyon: McGregor; Tavernier, Goldson, Balogun, Barisic, Davis, Kamara, Aribo, Roofe, Wright, Morelos
