Jamie Carragher has claimed that the difference between Everton boss, Rafa Benitez, and Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp is that one is an ’emotional’ manager, but the other is ‘not emotional’, as he told Sky Sports PL (13/09/21 at 10:15 pm).
The TV pundit did make it clear that there is ‘no right and wrong’ approach in how the Liverpool and Everton duo work.
Liverpool supporters will know all about Benitez’s calm presence on the touchline, as those in Everton colours will be learning about it now.
The Reds are due to face AC Milan on Wednesday evening in the Champions League and that brings back memories about that 2005 final in Istanbul.
Benitez was the calmest man in Turkey on that day, but that doesn’t mean a more wild, all-action and aggressive approach doesn’t work.
Nonetheless, this is what Carragher had to say about Benitez and Klopp, and how you still ‘love’ the way they approach matches.
“He (Benitez) will always look at what can be improved,” said Carragher. “He is that type of manager.
“He’s not an emotional manager. And there is no right and wrong. You look at Jurgen Klopp, you love him because he’s emotional.
“If Rafa is doing his job then you love him because he’s not emotional.”
Despite all the talk about Benitez becoming Everton boss in the summer and fans being against it, all of that noise is slowly going away.
A lot of it is down to Everton’s start to the new Premier League season and the fact that they are sitting in the top-four without a defeat to their name.
Sometimes results can paper over the cracks of the performances, but not in Everton’s case.
Their aggressive approach, quick forward play and ability to get the best out of their wide men is working a treat so far.
