West Ham United made a move for Luca Pellegrini before the transfer deadline – but the Juventus man rejected a switch to East London.
That’s according to Il Bianconcero, who claim that Pellegrini rejected both West Ham and Sampdoria this summer.
Pellegrini is convinced he can make it at Juventus, so chose to ignore any incoming offers for his signature.
West Ham target Pellegrini left out of Champions League squad
That dream became a little tougher for Pellegrini when he was left out of the Juventus Champions League squad.
Alex Sandro is the clear first-choice for Juventus, which may be why West Ham tried their luck for Pellegrini in the first place.
Add in that Matter De Sciglio can fill in at left back if needed, and Pellegrini has to sit on the sidelines.
The 22-year-old did finally make his Juventus debut against Napoli last weekend, but Juve lost 2-1.
West Ham’s left back pursuit a surprise
West Ham were linked with a couple of left backs before the transfer deadline.
Some maybe wouldn’t have pegged left back as being a priority for West Ham.
Aaron Cresswell is reliable in that role whilst Arthur Masuaku has recently returned to training.
A striker should have been a much bigger priority than a left back, yet it looked like West Ham preferred the latter late in the window.
