A huge loss to the world of comedy, Norm Macdonald sadly passed on Tuesday 14th September aged 61. Fans aren’t forgetting the hilarious skits and jokes that he provided though, including the infamous ‘Turd Ferguson’.
The SNL skit is just as funny today.
Where did ‘Turd Ferguson’ come from?
In a 1999 SNL skit of Celebrity Jeopardy!, Macdonald portrayed Burt Reynolds, alongside Will Ferrell, Jimmy Fallon and Darrell Hammond.
Hilariously, Norm’s character scribbled the name ‘Turd Ferguson’ on the front of his podium.
Macdonald then said: “That’s right. Turd Ferguson. It’s a funny name.”
‘Turd Ferguson’ joke continues years on
In true Norm Macdonald fashion, this genius comedy idea kept its value for years to come.
Whilst hosting his second night of Jeopardy!, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers sneakily slipped in a ‘Turd Ferguson’ reference.
In talks with Brandon Deutsch, Rodgers asked: “It says here when you were 4 months old Burt Reynolds — or was it Turd Ferguson — was holding you at some point?”
Aaron Rodgers also referred back to the skit back in 2015. Take a look below.
Norm Macdonald passes at age 61
The comedian sadly passed on Tuesday 14th September after a private battle with cancer.
First diagnosed nine years ago, according to the BBC, the 61-year-old was reportedly “determined to keep his health struggles private, away from family, friends and fans.”
A former employee on the Roseanne program, Macdonald then joined Saturday Night Live to host news parody skit Weekend Update.
More recently, Norm hosted a Netflix program, Norm Macdonald Has a Show, in 2018.
