Liverpool lineup against AC Milan

Tonight, for the first time ever, Liverpool face AC Milan at Anfield.

The two sides have met before but their clashes have been in finals.

Liverpool famously broke Milanese hearts in Istanbul.

The Italians got their own back a couple of years later in Athens.

Now the two clubs are in dramatically different moments, Liverpool have recently conquered the world whilst Milan are staggering back to their perch, slowly but surely reemerging.

Jürgen Klopp will give a lot away tonight.

There is currently no guessing who he could lineup with in the centre of the defence.

The boss has gone from famine to feast in terms of options at the back.

Liverpool have started the campaign with an unshakable partnership of Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk.

However, given that the pair are returning from long term injuries, it remains to be seen whether they’ll be asked to play two games a week.

Whether or not Jürgen Klopp introduces Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate tonight (or even just one of the pair) will be a clear indicator as to the boss’ plans this season.

Will there be a cup partnership and a league partnership? If Konate starts alongside Van Dijk is he settled there for the foreseeable?
