Reiss Nelson has stated on his Instagram story that he is ‘forever grateful’ to the recently-departed Arsenal man David Luiz.

The 34-year-old, who joined from Chelsea for £8 million in 2019 (BBC Sport), left Arsenal on a free-transfer this summer.

Luiz has opted to swap England’s top-flight for more familiar grounds because has opted to return home.

He has joined up with Brazilian giants Flamengo and he will be locking horns with Willian this season – he joined Corinthians.

Despite the mixed reaction to Luiz’s time at Arsenal, in terms of his performances, and impact, or lack of it.

It does seem as though he was a popular player in the dressing room and with the younger players.

Nelson, who made a deadline-day loan move to Feyenoord, made his feelings clear towards about the centre-back on his IG: “Forever grateful for this guy @davidluiz_4.

Even though Luiz has departed, Arsenal are still trying to fix their defensive issues.

But it seems as though Arteta is going for younger brains and hoping their transform into some of the best players in the Premier League.

For the first time over the weekend, Arteta was able to play Ben White and Gabriel as his centre-back pairing.

Not forgetting the hard-hitting engine Thomas Partey in the middle of the park.

It does seem as though those three will be critical to how Arsenal perform, from a defensive standpoint, because the back-up options don’t exactly fill supporters with confidence.
