The First Family has the reputation of being the model American family, so when entertainment gives us a glimpse into a complete opposite life, you can be sure that everyone’s going to be watching.
Tyler Perry’s The Oval follows the life inside the White House, where the dyanmics between the President, First lady, and the First children are not as smooth as assumed.
Hunter Franklin (Ed Quinn) is the contrast of his winning family-man campaign: interested in pursuing multiple affairs, his priorities clash with his wife Victoria’s (Kron Moore), who has been carefully engineering the operation to become America’s power couple.
The Oval has been one of BET’s most popular shows, raking in nearly one million views every episode throughout both seasons. So will the cable channel allow its return for season 3?
Will there be The Oval season 3?
Yes, season 3 has confirmed to be in the works after Deadline reported the renewal on February 23, 2021, just one week after the season 2 premiere.
It comes as no surprise that the series was greenlit so soon: the political drama has been labelled as the number one show for black viewers in all of television, aged 18-49 and 25-54.
The second half of the season 1 finale welcomed 2.9 million viewers tuning in on BET alone and the season 2 premiere saw an average of 1.5 million viewers across BET and BET Her.
Filming began at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta during July, alongside the production of Tyler’s other BET series Sistas. The studio has been known for its COVID-safe protocols, after Tyler became one of the first producers to hatch a plan to safely resume production in April 2020, just weeks into the Hollywood shutdown.
His quarantine bubble included all cast and crew, who were sequestered on the site for the duration of filming.
When will The Oval season 3 release?
There has been no official confirmation of a release date, but production of season 2 reportedly began on August 4, 2020 and premiered on February 16, 2021.
If season 3 filming followed schedule and began in July 2021, we can expect it to land on BET in early 2022.
Since The Oval has been conquering Tuesday nights since its birth, season 3 will likely continue to air on Tuesdays.
