**WARNING – Major Spoilers Ahead for Y: The Last Man**
Y: The Last Man is a television adaptation of writer Brian K. Vaughan and artist Pia Guerra’s sixty-issue comic series, depicting a world where a plague has killed almost every living man. Starring Diane Lane, Ben Schnetzer, Ashley Romans, Jess Salgueiro, and Olivia Thirlby, the series has some big questions to answer for newcomers.
One of those questions surrounds protagonist Yorick Brown and how he managed to survive the plague that eradicated all men. We explore the reason why Yorick managed to survive straight from the comics, as well as information regarding the next episode of the show.
Why Did Yorick Brown Survive in the Y: The Last Man Comics?
Yorick Brown managed to survive the plague thanks to a constant supply of monkey feces. Let us explain.
In the comics, Yorick is known to travel the near-apocalyptic world with his monkey companion, Ampersand – an animal that was once kept within a laboratory.
In teaming up with Ampersand, Yorick was virtually inseparable from the monkey, meaning he was more than likely exposed to his bowel movements more than once.
Because Ampersand is known to be a genetically modified animal – and because Yorick carries the monkey on his shoulder which would invite some excrement to touch him at some point – Yorick soon realized he was immune to the plague and we now know that it was all thanks to Ampersand’s mutated poop.
The comics also specify that Ampersand was experimented on by the ambiguous Dr. M – who is a prominent figure in the comics.
Another reason pertaining to Yorick’s survival points to the wedding ring he wears – a token to his fiancé before the apocalypse set in. The ring he carries was rumored to be somewhat magical and therefore protected Yorick and Ampersand from the plague.
