Sarah Paulson’s return as the headstrong nurse in Ryan Murphy’s Ratched is certainly in the pipeline, but radio silence surrounding the new season’s development has fans wondering whether we’ll get to see season 2 any time soon.

Season 1 left almost every character’s fate up in the air after a two-year time jump, but fans should expect to see Paulson, Cynthia Nixon, Finn Wittrock, Sophie Okonedo, Amanda Plummer, and Vincent D’Onofrio return.

Ratched Season 2 Release Window

Ratched season 2 is not expected to drop before 2022, leaving a year-long release window as our best bet.

With season 2 confirmed by Netflix, when it ordered a two-season bill back in 2017, a second run for Mildred Ratched is assured.

In terms of when to expect it, however, Paulson revealed her thoughts on the second season’s arrival during an interview with Variety in 2020. “Nobody knows anything about season 2 because Ryan, with the number of things he has going on, who’s to know when that’s all going to begin, and you throw in the pandemic and then we think well who knows.”

Elsewhere, there have been no other updates from any corner of the production. However, once American Horror Story Season 10 and the new season of American Crime Story settles, we could be in store for a much-needed update.

Ratched Season 2 Plot

Plot details are scarce for season 2 of Ratched, however, some cast interviews share a few tidbits.

In an interview with OprahMag.com, Cynthia Nixon revealed that there is “a lot of pathos and heartbreak up ahead.”

In the same interview with Variety, Paulson spoke about how she would like to “explore the parts of Mildred Ratched that aren’t porous.”

In a separate interview with Elle.com, Paulson also revealed that if the show was to continue into season 4, then that chapter would connect with the time of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest – the film that inspired the show.
