In a series of Twitter posts, Nicki Minaj revealed that she hasn’t been vaccinated yet and explained why she didn’t attend the 2021 Met Gala.
The biggest event in the fashion calendar took place on Monday, September 13th at its usual venue, the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Anna Wintour’s charity event hosted the likes of Kim Kardashian, Megan Fox, Billie Eilish, TikTok stars Dixie D’Amelio and Addison Rae, among many more.
But singer Nicki Minaj didn’t attend this year’s event and took to Twitter to explain why she isn’t vaccinated just yet.
Why is Nicki Minaj not vaccinated?
Taking to Twitter, the rapper revealed that she will get vaccinated once she feels she has “done enough research” which she is “working on” at the moment.
“They want you to get vaccinated for the Met. if I get vaccinated it won’t for the Met,” she tweeted. “It’ll be once I feel I’ve done enough research. I’m working on that now. In the meantime my loves, be safe. Wear the mask with 2 strings that grips your head & face. Not that loose one.”
As for her reason why she decided to miss the 2021 Met Gala and not travel to New York for the event, Nicki cited her one-year-old son. He was born in September 2020.
Sharing screenshots from other news outlets, she tweeted in another post: “3 lies in a row from huge news platforms. I cited my young child as why I didn’t want to travel. But notice how NONE of them mentioned that? Ask yourself why that was.”
Meanwhile, Nicki received backlash for claiming that her cousin’s friend’s testicles became “swollen” and he “became impotent” after he got the vaccine.
As reported by The Independent, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has not listed impotency or engorged genitals as a side effect of Covid vaccines.
Nicki says she will get the vaccine eventually
Following her tweets, the singer said that she will get vaccinated at some point in the future because many countries require vaccinations for travelling.
“A lot of countries won’t let ppl [people] work w/o [without] the vaccine. I’d def recommend they get the vaccine. They have to feed their families. I’m sure I’ll b vaccinated as well cuz I have to go on tour, etc,” she wrote in another post.
What has Twitter said about Nicki’s posts?
At the time of publication, Twitter has not marked Nicki’s tweets about the vaccine’s side effect as “misleading information”.
A Twitter spokesperson told The Verge that “the tweets you referenced are not in violation of the Twitter Rules”.
Who else didn’t attend the 2021 Met Gala?
A number of celebrities have missed this year’s event who have cited different reasons.
For instance, Zendaya said that she will be busy filming Euphoria and told Extra: “I know that this is the first time people are gonna hear that I’m not going. My fans will be very upset with me. I will unfortunately not be able to attend because I will be working on Euphoria. I got my time off to come here and do this Venice experience, which has been really, really special.”
Sarah Jessica Parker is also busy filming Sex and the City reboot and she previously explained: “I’m taking a year off. My date is filming this year. She’s filming And Just Like That!”
Beyoncé, Blake Lively and Selena Gomez are some of the other celebrities who missed this year’s Met Gala but haven’t revealed why.
