As Hawkeye’s expected release window crept closer and closer, Marvel fans were wondering when the first trailer would drop. Thanks to Marvel – and a quick tip from Jeremy Renner the day before – the fandom was gifted with a festive-themed trailer for the upcoming Disney+ series.

Hawkeye will be the next Phase 4 series after What If…? and excitement is building around Clint Barton’s (Renner) passing of the archer mantel to Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop. Despite no appearance by Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova or the rumored adversary Wilson Fisk, fans did receive the release date of November 24, and a brief glimpse at Lucky, the pizza dog.

Lucky, the Pizza Dog in Marvel Comics

Lucky was originally and aptly named, Arrow, and the golden retriever first appeared in Hawkeye Vol. 4 #1.

Arrow originally belonged to Ivan Banionis – a member of the Tracksuit Draculas – and the dog turned against his owner’s wishes to attack a man shooting at Hawkeye – after the archer showed Arrow some affection by offering him a slice of pizza.

After saving Hawkeye from the attack, Arrow was beaten by one of Ivan’s men, which resulted in the good boy being badly injured. Within an inch of his life, Arrow was saved by Hawkeye, who quickly took him to a vet.

Arrow lost his left eye during a number of surgeries, and after barely surviving, Hawkeye became his owner and renamed him, Lucky.

The comics also depict Kate Bishop having some ownership over Lucky as well, as they both moved to Los Angeles at one point.

Additionally, Lucky teams up with Mew – the pet of Squirrel Girl’s roommate, Nancy Whitehead – to become a part of Taskmaster’s takedown.

Lucky’s Hawkeye Trailer Spot

Set to the festive tune “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” by Andy Williams, the Hawkeye trailer featured a short clip of Lucky.

The one-eyed dog can be seen lying on the couch decorated with Christmas antlers, and early promo shots also saw Lucky sitting with Clint and Kate in the street.

In addition to the arrival of Yelena in the series, Lucky, the pizza dog has quickly become one of the fan-favorites before the show has even started.
