Thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic, movie releases have been impacted like never before with countless films either moving online or delaying their releases dates.
Despite the changing landscape, new films have found their way onto our screens, including the latest effort from the legendary actor and director Clint Eastwood, Cry Macho.
But just where will film fans be able to watch Cry Macho when it releases, will the movie be on a streaming service or is it exclusive to cinemas?
Cry Macho: Release date and plot
Cry Macho will be released in the US and Canada on September 17th, 2021 while the movie has differing release dates depending on the country in question.
For example, film fans in the UK and Ireland will have to wait until November 12th for their chance to watch Clint Eastwood in action.
Based on the acclaimed N. Richard Nash of the same name, Cry Macho tells the story of Mike Milo, a former rodeo star and washed-up horse breeder who, in 1979, takes on a job from his former boss and is tasked with bringing his wayward son back from Mexico.
Mike and his quarry – Rafael “Rafo” Polk and his fighting rooster, Macho – are forced to take the backroads on their way to Texas and the unlikely group are faced with several challenges along the way that give the world-weary horseman a chance at redemption.
Where to watch Cry Macho
Cry Macho will be available to watch both in theaters and on HBO Max when it releases in the US and Canada on September 17th.
That’s right, film fans have the choice of watching Clint Eastwood’s newest film from the comfort of their own home or on the big screen.
Fans in the US who want to watch Cry Macho in the theater can find out which venues are screening the movie here.
Meanwhile, those wanting to watch via HBO Max will have 31 days to do so from its release on September 17th. The film will only be available on the ad-free plan which is priced at $14.99 per month.
In countries where HBO Max is not available, Cry Macho will be exclusive to cinemas.
Clint Eastwood on directing and starring at 91
At 91 years of age (90 when filming took place), Clint Eastwood is easily one of the oldest people to have both starred and directed in a feature film and speaking to the Los Angeles Times, he revealed some of his quick-witted thoughts about his latest endeavours.
When asked about how his age correlated to his current work, Eastwood said: “I never think about. If I’m not the same guy, I don’t want to know anything about it. I might not like the new guy. I might think, ‘What am I doing with this idiot?'”
During Cry Macho, Eastwood returns somewhat to his archetypal role of a Western movie star as he throws a punch or two and even rides a horse for the first time since 1992’s Unforgiven. At the age of 90!
Speaking about riding a horse after such a long time, Eastwood explained: “The wrangler was worried. She was saying, ‘Be careful, be careful now.’ She was scared I’d end up on my rear end.
“But if you treat the horse like a buddy, he’ll take care of you.”
