After being postponed from its usual May date due to the pandemic, the Met Gala finally took place last night.
It’s the biggest event in the fashion year, with the whole world eagerly waiting to see what outfits celebrities will wear.
New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art was full of A-listers dressed by some of the world’s biggest designers.
For the first time ever, this year saw social media stars attending the prestigious event, including Addison Rae, Dixie D’Amelio, Madison Beer and Emma Chamberlain.
But what about Charli D’Amelio? Why wasn’t she there with her sister?
Why wasn’t Charli D’Amelio at the Met Gala?
Confusion is flooding the internet today as fans wonder why Charli D’Amelio didn’t attend the Met Gala. Her sister Dixie was there, so why wasn’t she?
Well, it’s all because of her age. In 2018, the Met Gala introduced a new age limit which said all attendees had to be over 18-years-old.
At the time, a spokesperson for the Met Gala said this was because: “It’s not an appropriate event for people under 18.”
Charli D’Amelio is only 17-years-old, meaning she was unable to go to the event, so therefore wouldn’t have been invited.
Charli already confirmed she wasn’t going
Weeks before the event, Charli actually confirmed that she wouldn’t be attending after rumours said the was.
During an interview with Sirius XM, she said: “The funny thing about [the rumours] is I’m actually not old enough to go to the Met Gala but I have gotten so much hate about that and I’m like, guys, I can’t even go.”
Dixie was also in the interview, but at the time, she kept quiet about the fact that she was in fact attending the event.
What did Dixie wear?
For the gala, Dixie wore a short black dress and a huge black feathered headpiece which some are dubbing a “birds nest”.
She paired the look with long white gloves and clear perspex heels, but her outfit hasn’t had a great reaction on Twitter.
One person tweeted: “Dixie D’Amelio is at the Met Gala looking like…that??”
“Basically everyone looked fab at the Met Gala apart from a couple (Dixie D’amelio),” said another.
A third person added: “The D’Amelio’s need to hire a new stylist, Charli’s outfit for the VMA’s was way too basic and Dixie’s outfit for the Met Gala was not it.”
