Addison Rae’s 2021 Met Gala appearance has left the internet divided. Some commended how far the TikTok star has come, while others questioned if she even deserved an invite to the prestigious event.
The internet star, who recently starred in Netflix’s He’s All That, is one of TikTok’s biggest creators. Although there are many who dislike her, it is undeniable how far the 20-year-old has come – from making TikTok videos as a college freshman to being a guest at the 2021 Met Gala.
Addison has certainly gone from being one of the many TikTok creators to becoming a mainstream Hollywood celeb in the past year.
In this article, we take a look at five milestone moments in Addison’s career that have made her the star she is today.
Moving to California and joining Hype House
Addison began posting on TikTok in mid-2019 while she was a student at the Louisiana State University, studying broadcast journalism. After her videos began gaining traction, she quit college and moved to California to pursue content creation full time, a move that would change the course of her life forever.
She joined the Hype House that included creators like Thomas Petrou, Chase Hudson, Avani Gregg, Charli D’Amelio, Dixie D’Amelio and more. Her association with the collective won her many brand deals.
Friendship with Kourtney Kardashian
Addison started distancing herself from Hype House after becoming one of TikTok’s biggest creators.
The LA native soon crossed paths with Kourtney Kardashian and the duo went on to become ‘besties,’ with the 42-year old featuring on Addison’s social media every now and then.
Predictably, Addison’s friendship with Kourtney opened more doors by bringing her in contact with many important people. She went on to star in an episode of the cult classic show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
Modelling for Kim Kardashian’s brand SKIMS
Addison’s friendship with Kourtney exposed her to the rest of the Kardashian clan and won her a modelling gig with Kim’s internationally acclaimed brand, SKIMS.
Addison modelled for SKIMS in September 2020 to celebrate the brand’s first anniversary.
Budding friendship with Hailey Bieber
Hailey and Addison were reportedly first introduced during a virtual charity event in March 2020. For the event, the TikToker teamed up with Tennis star Taylor Fritz for a fundraiser that was streamed on Facebook.
The duo won the competition beating Hailey and Naomi Osaka. They won $1 million for Addison’s charity of choice No Kid Hungry. Justin and Hailey later face-timed her to congratulate her.
Addison also appeared on Hailey’s YouTube channel for the video series Who’s In My Bathroom in May 2021, where the duo chatted up as they made sandwiches.
Starring in He’s All That
Finally, landing the lead role in a Netflix movie pushed the envelope for Addison’s career even more. Although the film received mixed reviews, the TikTok star’s performance as Padgett Sawyer was promising.
Addison also released her original song Obsessed in 2021.
