Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has said on Match of the Day 2 on BBC One (11:10pm, September 12, 2021) how Pascal Struijk reacted in the dressing room after being sent off for a challenge on Liverpool winger Harvey Elliott.
In the 58th minute of the Premier League game between Leeds and Liverpool at Elland Road yesterday, a challenge from defender Struijk saw youngster Elliott suffer a serious injury.
Elliott, who has been playing in midfield this season, was soon taken off on a stretcher, and Struijk was shown a straight red card.
Leeds striker Bamford has shared how the 22-year-old Dutch defender reacted in the dressing room.
Bamford said on Match of the Day 2 on BBC One (11:10pm, September 12, 2021): “I know Pascal is really sorry about it. We send our thoughts to Harvey.
“He was just confused obviously. He thought he had won the ball. He didn’t realise what had happened until afterwards.”
The injury to Elliott could see him stay on the sidelines for a long time, and it must be really disappointing for the Liverpool winger.
Struijk must really feel bad now, but the Leeds defender cannot be blamed for the injury.
The 22-year-old did go for the ball and did not mean to hurt Elliott at all.
It was just unfortunate that Elliott got injured.
Hopefully the Liverpool winger will make a full recovery before long.
