Fans of the hit franchise Fairy Tail are delighted to hear about the news of a new anime series, an adaptation of the spin-off manga 100 Years Quest!

At the start of 2021, fans of the highly popular ‘Fairy Tail’ franchise might have been feeling slightly pessimistic.

However, things started looking up as the franchise experienced a resurgence thanks to the launch of Mashima’s spiritual successor project, ‘Edens Zero’ in the Spring.

Now, almost two years since the Fairy Tail anime series concluded, we finally have confirmation that we will return to Earth Land with a new title that will adapt the 100 Years Quest spin-off manga!

What is Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest?

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest is a Japanese manga series from Hiro Mashima that serves as a sequel to the highly popular Fairy Tail main franchise.

The series made its debut in July 2018 and at the time of writing, nine volumes have been published across 90 individual chapters in Japan.

Seven volumes have been published so far in English, with the latest two volumes set to release on September 28th and December 14th respectively.

You can read the manga online in English via Kodansha’s American website. However, plenty of online retails also offer both the print and e-book versions of the series, including Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Bookshop and Penguin Random House.

What is 100 Years Quest about?

100 Years Quest is set one year after the conclusion of the main Fairy Tail series, continuing with Natsu, Lucy, Happy and Erza as they take on a mission that no one has been able to complete for over a century.

“A mysterious town, a baffling spirit, a ghastly new enemy…and a brand new continent to explore. When you’re with real friends, the adventures never stop!” Kodansha’s synopsis, via ANN.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest anime adaptation…

On September 11th, a fan meeting with Hiro Mashima took place in Japan and during the live-stream, the anime adaptation of 100 Years Quest was formally announced.

Unfortunately, very little information on the anime spin-off was revealed but fans should expect A-1 Pictures to produce the series, who worked on both the original and OVA titles.

Similarly, no word on the voice cast for 100 Years Quest’s anime was revealed but again, the original cast is expected to reprise their roles. This includes Tetsuya Kakihara as Natsu, Aya Hirano as Lucy, Rie Kugimiya as Happy and Sayaka Ohara as Ezra.

What date will 100 Years Quest release?

A targeted release date for Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest’s anime adaptation has not been confirmed by Mashima, but we can make some predictions based on the production of another of his works, Edens Zero.

Edens Zero was publicly announced in June 2020 and premiered on Japanese television networks in April 2021.

Assuming that 100 Years Quest experiences a similar production schedule, fans could see a return to Earth Land as soon as July 2022 on the Summer anime slate.

The only potential caveat is concerning the animation studios, likely to be either A-1 Productions or Satellite studios; both of whom worked on previous anime in the franchise. The issue is that both of these companies may prioritise their work on other projects, including Sword Art Online and Sakugan.

This article will be updated as soon as more information on Fairy Tai: 100 Years Quest is revealed.
