Lee Hendrie has said on Sky Sports News (1:32pm, September 11, 2021) that reported Aston Villa target Dwight McNeil would be perfect for Rafael Benitez’s Everton.

The former Villa midfielder has said that he knows that Dean Smith’s side wanted to sign McNeil from Burnley in the summer transfer window.

Hendrie has claimed that the 21-year-old would be perfect for Everton.

The Liverpool Echo reported in August interest from Villa and Everton in the summer transfer window.

However, nothing materialised, and the 21-year-old winger is still at  Burnley.

Hendrie said about McNeil on Sky Sports News (1:32pm, September 11, 2021), as transcribed by The Burnley Express: “He [McNeil] fits the bill for Everton with what he brings.

“When you’ve got a wide player who delivers quality like he does, there’s no hiding the fact that a number of clubs were interested. I know Villa were too because of the way they play.

“He would suit an Everton shirt because he’s got great ability going by players, he puts balls into areas where you want it, and he doesn’t hang about.

“When you’ve got the likes of Calvert-Lewin or Rondon, he would be a perfect fit for Everton. That’s why they’ve brought the likes of Townsend in. They want wide men. That’s just how Rafa likes to play. I’m pretty sure it’s not over yet.”

Future Everton or Aston Villa move?

Burnley are an established club in the Premier League, but the Clarets are likely to have to fight for survival in the top flight of English football.

Again.

Of course, money talks, but it is unlikely that Burnley will sell McNeil in the middle of the season, especially if it looks like they could go down to the Championship.

But perhaps next summer a transfer could happen.

Now, of course, Everton and Villa both signed wingers this summer, but a lot can happen at any football club in a season.
