Peter Crouch has said on BT Sport 1 (11:51am, September 11, 2021) that Tottenham Hotspur head coach Nuno trusts Dele Alli, unlikely Jose Mourinho.
The former Tottenham striker has said that he does not think that Mourinho had trust in Alli.
Crouch believes that Nuno, who was appointed the Tottenham head coach in the summer, has faith in the 25-year-old England international midfielder.
The pundit has also suggested how Alli should be managed and played to get him back to his best.
Crouch said about Alli on BT Sport 1 (11:51am, September 11, 2021): “He needs to play with a smile on his face. I think someone like him needs to play free, needs to enjoy himself.”
The Englishman added: “I think Mourinho didn’t trust him in that position.
“What Nuno has done now is give him that trust and play him in that central role. ‘I know you are winning it back, I know you are going to work hard for me’.”
Back to his best
Alli struggled for playing time under Mourinho at Spurs last season.
The Tottenham midfielder has scored one goal in four Premier League appearances so far this season.
The 25-year-old made seven starts and eight substitute appearances in the league last season.
Alli also made six starts and two substitute appearances in the Europa League for the North London club in 2020-21.
Nuno has been playing Alli in a deeper role in midfield this season.
However, the midfielder still has the freedom to burst forward.
The 25-year-old is not at his best yet, but if played regularly, he will get there eventually.
