Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger said to Leon Bailey on his Instagram ‘nice one brother’ after the Aston Villa man put him on his backside on Saturday.
Villa’s summer signing came off the bench during Chelsea’s 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge yesterday.
Even though the scoreline suggests it was comfortable for Chelsea, it was far from it.
Villa should have scored at least two in the first half, and when Bailey came on after the break, the quick-footed winger looked very lively, including nutmegging Marcos Alonso near the corner flag.
But minutes after coming onto the pitch, Bailey fronted up Rudiger, pushed him down the line, cut inside with the German ending up on the floor, before he found Ollie Watkins on the edge of the area and his shot resulted in the away side winning a corner.
As expected, Bailey showcased a number of tricks during his time on the field and fans will be hoping there is more to come.
When Bailey posted on Instagram yesterday, including an image of him putting Rudiger on his backside, the Chelsea man responded in the comments section: “Nice on brother.”
The Villa winger responded by saying: “Haha. It’s all love bro, you know that.”
In the end, Chelsea proved why they are European champions because they were at their clinical best.
Dean Smith’s side didn’t turn up at Stamford Bridge to sit back, but be on the front foot, be aggressive and have a go.
Ollie Watkins, in his first start this season, had a number of guilt-edge chances to put the ball into the back of the net.
But whilst he couldn’t convert, Romelu Lukaku was at his deadly best by firing in the two chances he was handed.
