Leeds United winger Raphinha has been on Liverpool’s radar as far back as 2016 with the wide man set to play against the Reds this weekend.
That’s according to The Independent, who claim that Raphinha isn’t just a recent addition to Liverpool’s wish list.
Yes, Juve Live claimed earlier this year that Liverpool do fancy signing Raphinha. Yet now, a more reliable Liverpool source has indicated their interest.
It’s suggested that Liverpool first spotted Raphinha in 2016. Then with Avai in Brazil, Raphinha played in the Copa Sao Paulo and caught Liverpool’s attention.
The tournament was held in the January of 2016. Liverpool didn’t have much time to get a move in for him, as Vitoria Guimaraes snapped him in the February.
The skilful yet combative wide man joined Sporting two years later. Rennes swooped, but after a year in France, Leeds United pounced in for Raphinha.
Raphinha, 24, was superb last season. He made full backs look silly for fun and also hit six goals and nine assists for Leeds.
Would Leeds star Raphinha fit in at Liverpool now?
You can certainly imagine Raphinha in the Liverpool side.
His pace and skill would entertain the Anfield crowd, with his intensity surely appealing to Jurgen Klopp.
If you are suitable for Marcelo Bielsa’s gruelling style, you are probably well prepared for Klopp.
Mohamed Salah is nearing his 30’s now. Adding another winger who can cut inside onto his left foot would be ideal.
Raphinha fits the age profile at just 24, and has already excelled in the Premier League.
Given that Raphinha earns around £30,000-a-week at Leeds, Liverpool could surely offer a big wage rise too.
But don’t expect Leeds to entertain any offer. The Whites are looking to really push on in the Premier League, and they need Raphinha for that.
Leeds would surely look to double, even treble their money in any deal for Raphinha.
Raphinha is happy at Elland Road and has no need to leave Leeds right now.
If he ever does fancy going, expect to see Liverpool near the front of the queue.
