**WARNING – Spoilers Ahead for Lucifer Season 5**
Netflix has aired the sixth and final season of the Tom Ellis-led Lucifer show, which will develop Mr. Morningstar as his father’s succession as a new God.
Season 6 promises a fiery finale and has also introduced the new character Rory, who will serve as this chapter’s main antagonist. As Lucifer’s end looms, some viewers are wondering what happened to the likable Detective Dan Espinoza in Season 5.
What Happened to Detective Dan Espinoza?
Portrayed by Kevin Alejandro, Detective Dan Espinoza has been a series regular since the beginning, appearing as Chloe Decker’s ex-husband and father to Trixie.
The homicide detective of the L.A.P.D. has had his fair share of dramatic life events for a regular cop, leading him to suffer from a mental breakdown at the beginning of Season 5.
Despite Dan’s navigation through the trials and tribulations of the show, he ultimately met his end in Season 5, missing out on being a part of the final chapter.
How Did Dan Die in Season 5?
In the Season 5 episode, titled ‘Is This Really How It’s Going to End?’, Dan is working on a case to find the man in possession of Amenadiel’s Necklace. The necklace is also being searched for by French mercenaries hired by Michael, who wanted to construct the Flaming Sword.
While searching the home of a potential victim, to warn them of the mercenaries close by, Dan is kidnapped by them and held hostage.
After an interrogation, Dan attempts to escape by killing one of the guards but ends up getting shot several times himself.
Chloe eventually finds Dan, who has been fighting for his life in order to be able to say goodbye to her, and sadly, Dan eventually dies in her arms.
Lucifer Season 6 is now available to stream on Netflix.
