If you’re a fan of WWE, you obviously know who Triple H is.

The 52-year-old is a WWE legend, winning a staggering 14 World Championships, five Intercontinental Championships, three World Tag Team Championships and two European Championships.

Following his unofficial retirement last year, Paul Levesque is now the Executive Vice President of Global Talent Strategy and Development at WWE and founded its NXT brand.

He’s widely considered one of the greatest wrestlers of all time and is loved by fans across the globe.

So, when WWE released a statement this week revealing he recently had a “cardiac event” fans were incredibly concerned, and also a little confused by the terminology.

What does “cardiac event” mean? Did he have a heart attack?

Triple H suffered a cardiac event

On Wednesday (September 8th), WWE released a statement addressing Triple H’s health.

“Paul Levesque, a.k.a. Triple H, underwent a successful procedure last week at Yale New Haven Hospital following a cardiac event. The episode was caused by a genetic heart issue and Paul is expected to make a full recovery,” they said.

Triple H has been absent from his social media for the past few weeks, but there had been no indication that he had health problems, so it came as a shock to fans.

Did Triple H have a heart attack?

The WWE statement says that Triple H suffered a “cardiac event” which many are presuming to mean he had a heart attack.

By definition, a ‘cardiac event’ is any incident that may cause damage to the heart muscle.

‘Cardiac arrest’ is when the heart malfunctions and stops beating unexpectedly, whereas a ‘heart attack’ is when blood flow to the heart is blocked.

Triple H suffered a “cardiac event” which does not necessarily mean he had a heart attack, but it does mean he damaged his heart, and had to have a procedure to treat it.

Whilst, ‘cardiac event’ and ‘heart attack’ don’t actually mean the same thing, the terms are often used interchangeably, so it is possible that Triple H did have a heart attack.
