Tottenham Hotspur have had high hopes for Yago Santiago in recent years, and he has been in first-team training this week.

Tottenham pounced to sign midfielder Santiago from Celta Vigo in 2019 having offered him an ‘extraordinary’ proposal.

Santiago bagged three goals and five assists in 20 games for Tottenham’s Under-18’s last season, and has already scored against Stevenage in the EFL Trophy this season.

The 18-year-old still has a long way to go until he breaks into Tottenham’s first team, but he has received a boost this week.

Photos have shown Santiago in first-team training this week, attempting to impress Nuno Espirito Santo.

With so many players away on international duty – such as Hugo Lloris, Davinson Sanchez, Cristian Romero, Sergio Reguilon, Matt Doherty, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Giovani Lo Celso, Steven Bergwijn, Son Heung-min and Harry Kane, almost a whole XI – Nuno has had to call up youngsters to fill in.

Santiago was one of them, and he was also spotted in the background of a video showcasing Emerson Royal’s first day of training at Hotspur Way (1:44).

The Spaniard appears to have a bright future, and experiencing training around senior players should be great for his development.

If Santiago has impressed Nuno this week, we may well see him joining Tottenham’s first-team training again later this season.
