Arsenal fans may not have expected to be glued to China v Japan, but Takehiro Tomiyasu being in action was too good to pass up.
The Gunners wanted a new right back before the transfer deadline, and swooped with mere minutes to spare as Tomiyasu arrived from Bologna.
Defender Tomiyasu hasn’t yet made the trip to London though, as Arsenal’s new man has been away on international duty with Japan.
On Tuesday, Japan took on China in a World Cup qualifier, and Arsenal new boy Tomiyasu started as the left-sided centre back in Japan’s four-man defence.
Maya Yoshida joined Tomiyasu in the side, helping keep a clean sheet as Japan secured a 1-0 win over China in Qatar.
Tomiyasu will be delighted with the clean sheet, and Arsenal fans appear to be buzzing with what they’ve seen from their new defender.

Arsenal supporters took to Twitter to react to Tomiyasu’s display, with some dazzled by his ability on his left foot.
Some Arsenal fans called his two-footed nature ‘incredible’ and ‘insane’, believing Tomiyasu is ‘so comfortable’ on either side.
Others noticed Tomiyasu’s pace, praising his ‘excellent recovery speed’ and praised his reading of the game, with Arsenal fans now expecting big things.
