Rodrigo de Paul has made his feelings towards Tottenham defender Cristian Romero pretty clear.
The £30 million Atlético Madrid forward (Goal) commented on the Tottenham man’s Instagram post, after the debacle in Brazil, by simply writing: “I go to war with you.”
Over the weekend, Romero, Giovani Lo Celso, who also posted on Instagram yesterday, were accused of breaking COVID rules, alongside Aston Villa duo Emiliano Martinez and Emiliano Buendia.
Given that all four players travelled to South America last week – from the UK – they were expected to quarantine for 14 days upon their arrival, according to Brazilian rules.
But it seems as though that didn’t happen and it all resulted in Brazil officials storming the pitch five minutes into Argentina’s World Cup qualifier in Sao Paulo.
The powers that be accused all four players, including three of whom were starting – Martinez, Lo Celso and Romero – of not following government guidelines.
It caused quite the scenes in Brazil, as the game was eventually abandoned with the clock not even going into double figures.
But, as you can see by de Paul’s comments, the feeling inside the Argentine camp is pretty clear.
Whilst the Brazil health officials wanted the four Argentina players off the pitch and seemingly out of the country, it does seem as though the whole team opted to walk off together as the war-of-words were being exchanged out on the pitch.
Nonetheless, it’s going to be interesting to see what happens with Romero and Lo Celso now and what the reaction will be like in North London.
There’s no doubt that a certain Daniel Levy will be getting involved and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he isn’t best pleased with these recent events.
