Marc Guéhi has been speaking during the international break, where the Crystal Palace man has linked up with the England Under-21 side.

Specifically, the £18m man was asked about Lee Carsley’s decision to name him England Under-21 captain.

What’s the story?

Well, it’s quite an achievement for the 21-year-old.

Speaking to Goal, Guéhi said: “It’s a privilege to be captain and it is a proud moment for me and my family. I was a bit shocked at first. There’s a lot of leaders and fantastic players in the group.”

Crystal Palace’s No.6 has racked up 11 caps for the England Under-21 side, and is clearly a valued member of the group.

Having watched interviews of the ex-Chelsea man following his move to Selhurst Park, he comes across as a quiet, calm but assured figure.

Clearly, he leads by example behind the scenes, enough for Carsley to consider him capable of guiding the likes of Harvey Elliott and Ryan Sessegnon.

In our view, Crystal Palace have signed a £50m centre-back for just £18m.

In just three Premier League appearances for the Eagles, Guéhi has looked exceptionally calm on the ball, and reads the game superbly.

That’s without mentioning his physical attributes. The Chelsea academy graduate is incredibly quick across the ground, and boasts great upper body strength.

In terms of a comparison, Guéhi could quite easily replicate Ben White’s rise in recent years.

Like Guéhi did in temporarily swapping Chelsea for Swansea, Brighton sent White on loan to the Championship with Leeds.

After starring in the second tier, the 23-year-old is now a £50m centre-back after joining Arsenal, and also an England international.

If Guéhi remains injury free, there’s no reason why he can’t be where White is when he also reaches the ages of 23.
