Nahitan Nandez will ask his agent to push Cagliari to let him leave in the January transfer window after they denied the Tottenham target a move this summer, per Calciomercato.
Cagliari disappointed Nandez by failing to agree on terms for his release from the Unipol Domus before last Tuesday’s deadline. He will now remain in Sardinia until, at least, the winter market, to help Leonardo Semplici keep Gli Isolani clear of the Serie A drop zone.
Semplici’s side have started the season poorly with one draw and one defeat prior to the international break. Cagliari would have hoped for better results after staving off the threat of relegation last term by just four points.

Nandez seemingly has little interest in another survival scrap, as the rumoured Tottenham target hopes to leave Cagliari in January. He will ask his agent to put pressure on Gli Isolani to accept terms, with Inter Milan still his priority.
Reports by FC Inter News last month claimed Nandez had promised himself to the San Siro outfit. The Uruguayan had even agreed a €3m-a-year (£49.5k-a/w) contract with the Nerazzurri. But Cagliari refused Inter Milan’s loan or permanent offers for the 25-year-old.
Tottenham, meanwhile, had an approach accepted, with Cagliari agreeing to loan Nandez to the north Londoners for €10m (£8.5m). That’s according to La Nuova Sardegna, who claim Spurs’ deal would have featured an obligation to buy worth €15m-20m (£13m-17m).
The total fee was less than the €36m (£31m) President Tommaso Giulini wanted for his side’s 43-cap international. And could hold out for that in January, as Centotrentuno added they blocked a last-ditch exit as Nandez is too important to the bottom-half Serie A side.
Should Tottenham rival Inter for Cagliari ace Nandez in January?
Tottenham could look to revive their interest and rival Inter Milan if Nandez does push to leave Cagliari in January. Fabio Paratici allegedly came close to signing the Uruguayan this summer. So, would seemingly have high hopes for his potential under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Although Spurs may no longer need a deep-lying technician like Nandez, after signing Pape Matar Sarr for €18m (£15.5m). Potentially clearing the path for the Nerazzurri to agree on terms below Cagliari’s valuation of Nandez if he remains unsettled.
Yet Nandez started both of Gli Isolani’s Serie A openers before the September international break at right-midfield. Showing Nuno and Paratici the versatility he can offer, having also excelled in a holding midfield role for club and country.
