Tottenham Hotspur have brought in right back Emerson Royal from Barcelona, and he is now heading for London to start his Premier League career.
Fabio Paratici and Nuno Espirito Santo wanted another right back before the transfer deadline, even with Japhet Tanganga starting the season well there.
A more expansive option was wanted, and with Matt Doherty’s future unclear and Serge Aurier ending deadline day as a free agent, Tottenham made their move.
Tottenham identified Emerson as their top target, and made their move in the days leading up to deadline day, eventually striking a deal.
Emerson isn’t in the Brazil squad right now, but has seemingly been back home over the international break ahead of travelling over to England.
Emerson took to Instagram on Sunday to post a photo of himself boarding a plane, later confirming that he was London-bound.
The right back then added another photo as he touched down in Luton to start his life as a Tottenham player.
This wasn’t really part of the plan for Emerson when he became a full-time Barcelona player this summer, having spent more than two years with Real Betis thanks to a co-ownership deal.
Tottenham got their man though, and give Emerson a real platform to play first-team football.
Now in England and ready to go, Emerson may hope for a Tottenham debut against Crystal Palace this weekend.
