Chris Sutton has suggested that Leigh Griffith is finished at Celtic.

The 31-year-old was given a new one-year deal by Ange Postecoglou this past summer but, somewhere down the line, the Australian boss, who replaced Neil Lennon in Glasgow, appears to have had a change of heart with regards to using Griffiths because he was loaned to Dundee at the end of the transfer window.

And with his existing contract expiring in 2022, the former Celtic hitman cannot see how the Scotland international can save his Parkhead career from Dundee.

He told The Record: “One thing I’m more sure about is that Leigh Griffiths’ time at the club has come to an end. I know he said he still thinks he has a future at Celtic but with a move to Dundee and his contract up in the summer, I just can’t see it.

Is Sutton right?

Unfortunately, yes. He more than likely is right.

As far as goalscoring goes, Griffiths has been one of the finest to pull on the Celtic shirt in recent memory.

In the 2015-16 season, the former Hibernian marksman netted a whopping 40 goals under Ronny Deila which, for context, is a total that even Moussa Dembele, Odsonne Edouard and Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos have got nowhere near during their time in Scottish football, in terms of individual seasons.

On his day he can be absolutely lethal, but he has gradually become less and less important at Paradise, starting during Brendan Rodgers’s reign.

Having said that, he could absolutely tear the Premiership a new one at Dens Park throughout the campaign and that could potentially see him earn another chance at Celtic.

But how ever capable he is, there’s still a question of consistency and that, not his ability, has plagued him for years now.
