Kevin Campbell has claimed that some Arsenal fans didn’t want the club to sign Aaron Ramsdale before he joined, as he told the Highbury Squad.

The former striker suggested that there were some calls of ‘we don’t want you’ before Ramsdale swapped Sheffield United colours for Arsenal’s this summer.

It was a bit long-winded, but in the end, the Gunners finally managed to get their man when they secured Ramsdale’s goalkeeping talents for £24 million, according to Sky Sports.

For back-to-back seasons, the Englishman has suffered relegations with both the Blades and Bournemouth, hence why there was some concern.

Campbell touched upon the young players that have been purchased by Mikel Arteta and how they won’t have time to settle in.

“Some of the players weren’t even in the club and they were getting barracked by some of the Gooners,” said Campbell.

“So, no, there is no time. Patience isn’t something Arsenal fans are blessed with, at the moment.

“As I said, the likes of Ramsdale never even came to the club and he was getting ‘don’t come to our club. We don’t want you’.

“Despicable stuff was being thrown at the young man. And he’s an Arsenal man now, he wears that badge and we should be supporting him.”

From Ramsdale’s perspective, he has started off his Arsenal career in a strong fashion because he kept a clean sheet on his debut against West Brom in the League Cup.

But in and around him, it is quite the mess, with the London club sitting bottom of the Premier League table, on zero points and having conceded nine goals.

Bernd Leno’s performance away at Manchester City last time out was questionable and it will be interesting to see if Arteta makes changes in that regard.

It’s obvious that Ramsdale will be Arsenal’s future number one because Leno is out-of-contract at the club next summer.
