Mika Biereth was among the goals for Arsenal yet again on Thursday.
Arsenal squared off with Southampton in an U23 Premier League Cup game last night.
The game ended 1-1 and the reason for that is Biereth, the 18-year-old striker signed by Edu on July 30.
Biereth, who joined the Gunners from Fulham’s academy, equalised for Kevin Betsy’s side.
The towering, blonde-haired hitman also scored in a 4-2 win over Crystal Palace last month, enjoying a seamless transition to life at London Colney.
It was a crisp finish for the big striker last night and here’s how some Arsenal fans are reacting on Twitter:
Under the radar
All of Edu’s other summer recruits got a lot of attention – and much of it negative.
Arsenal spent £150 million on players this past summer and there was quite a bit of criticism over how much they were paying for the likes of Ben White, whose transfer fee represented one-third of their overall outlay.
But less has been written about Biereth, presumably because he wouldn’t have cost a fortune and because he was always going to start his career in North London in the youth team.
And although it’s early days, it’s very much a case of so far, so good.
He has gone under the radar and a lot of Arsenal fans might not even know about him yet, but there’s nothing wrong with that so long as he is ready to show them who he is when it’s his time for a senior berth.
