After the Covid-19 pandemic led to the great Marvel drought of 2020, the MCU has returned in bombastic fashion this year with an endless amount of new films and TV series for us to explore.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is the next movie instalment in the MCU with it releasing on September 3rd.
But as ever with Marvel films, attention has turned to Shang-Chi’s end credits and whether the new arrival will feature Marvel’s traditional post-credits scene.
Shang-Chi: Release date and plot
After having its release date delayed multiple times in the past year, Shang-Chi finally hit screens on September 3rd, 2021 in the US and here in the UK.
Starring Simu Liu as the titular character, the Legend of the Ten Rings delves into the past that Shang-Chi thought that he had left behind.
Following the reemergence of the mysterious Ten Rings organisation, led by Shang-Chi’s father, Wenwu (aka The Mandarin), Shang-Chi must confront many of his past demons as well as the sinister motives of his father.
Does Shang-Chi have a post-credits scene?
- Yes, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has two post-credits scenes, so you’ll want to stick around after the film.
Since 2008’s Iron Man, every film in the MCU – apart from 2019’s Avengers: Endgame – has had a post-credits scene of some sort, either teasing an upcoming movie or adding one last joke for fans to enjoy.
And it’s the same story in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings as the film boasts a pair of end-credits scenes, one mid-way through and one coming right at the end.
The first end-credits scene is the most intriguing of the pair as it shows Shang-Chi, Katy and Wong examining the mystical Ten Rings alongside Carol ‘Captain Marvel’ Danvers and Bruce Banner who appear via hologram – the latter back in his human form after spending Avengers: Endgame as the Hulk.
Studying the Ten Rings, which give off a similar power signature to that of the multiverse with twisting branches of light, the group notices that the ancients artefacts are emitting a signal of unknown origin.
The second of Shang-Chi’s post-credits scenes places the focus on Shang-Chi’s sister, Xialing, as she takes control of the Ten Rings organisation that was previously helmed by her and Shang-Chi’s father, Wenwu.
Whether Xialing plans to use the Ten Rings organisation for good or evil remains to be seen.
Where to watch Shang-Chi
- Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be available exclusively in cinemas when it releases on September 3rd.
The film will not be coming to Disney+ upon its release as we have seen with Black Widow and other recent Disney films including Cruella and Jungle Cruise.
Instead, the film will have a 45-day run exclusively in movie theatres according to The Hollywood Reporter, hoping to be a boost to the cinema industry after a tough year due to the pandemic.
That means the earliest Shang-Chi will be available to watch from home will be October 18th, although it’s yet to be announced if the film will be coming to Disney+ or other digital stores.
Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is out now after arriving in cinemas on September 3rd, 2021.
