Wes Morgan’s predictions about Harry Maguire have come true now he is a mainstay for Manchester United and England.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the former Leicester City captain admitted he always knew Maguire would make it to the highest echelons for his club and country.

Morgan shared a dressing room with the United skipper for two seasons before the latter set sail for Old Trafford in 2019.

The pair played 48 times together for Leicester, losing the final four fixtures they featured together in.

Maguire then moved to Manchester, where he established himself as one of the Premier League’s elite centre-backs.

His place within England’s setup was already cemented whilst foraging for the Foxes, but it was completely set in stone once he became a Red Devil.

Morgan’s Maguire prophecy

Whilst the 28-year-old rose to the summit of the mountain, Morgan watched on from his Leicester vantage point, forced to take a back seat mainly due to injuries.

But the defender holds no jealousy over Maguire’s trajectory.

In fact, the now-retired centre-half confessed he saw it coming all along.

“Harry’s been in the game for a while, and when he joined Leicester he kicked on to another level, to a point where I remember saying to myself that he’s probably too good for us,” said Morgan.

“I wasn’t surprised that a big, big club came in for him.

“He’s kept his high standards and his high-levels up and his impressive form for Man United and for England.

“I’m not surprised, I knew he had the capabilities. It’s just whether he could reproduce that on the big stage and he has.”

For Maguire to truly engrave his name into the history books, he must lead United to a league title once again.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are primed for an assault on Manchester City’s kingdom, thanks to the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo on his golden steed.

Raphael Varane’s introduction adds extra steal to the defence, whilst Paul Pogba provides the ingenuity further upfield.

Can United reclaim what they lost eight years ago? It will be difficult, but they certainly have the tools to do so.
