Alfredo Morelos has admitted that he still has designs on leaving Rangers to compete in a ‘more watched league’, but stressed that his relationship with Steven Gerrard is ‘very good’.

The Colombia hitman was been heavily linked with a move to Porto during the summer.

In August, A Bola in Portugal reported that Rangers’ elimination from the Champions League qualification phase made them vulnerable to losing their best player.

But when the transfer deadline passed at midnight on Wednesday morning, Morelos was still a Ger.

No Rangers star has been linked with a move away from Glasgow more than Morelos in recent years but, despite remaining in Scotland yet again, the player clearly wants more exposure.

He told Caracol Radio: “My relationship with Steven Gerrard is very good, every day it’s growing.

“He has a lot of confidence towards me, he supports me a lot and since the America’s Cup ended I have had his unconditional support. Each player wants to improve each day and be in a better league, in a more watched league.”

56

Morelos fired Rangers to a 55th Premiership title last season, made more special by the fact it denied Celtic a 10th-successive league crown.

And if the 25-year-old inspires them to 56, no doubt there’ll be a lot more speculation next summer.

Only this time, it might happen.

Winning back-to-back Premiership titles will raise the South American’s profile even more and even Rangers fans, or Gerrard, wouldn’t begrudge him a move away at that point.
