*WARNING: Major spoilers ahead for Money Heist season 5*

The characters of Money Heist (aka. La Casa De Papel) are seemingly always in danger thanks to the high-stakes heists they take part in and that’s certainly the case in season 5.

Since the series began in 2017, Úrsula Corberó’s Tokyo has been one of the show’s central characters and even serves as the series’ narrator. Her story began as a simple street thief before the Professor took her under his wing.

She’s at the heart of the action in season 5 as the crew take on the full force of the army inside the Bank of Spain but does Tokyo manage to survive the events of Money Heist or does Úrsula Corberó’s character die?

Money Heist season 5: Release date and plot

Part 1 of Money Heist season 5 exploded onto Netflix on September 3rd, 2021.

In season 5, we catch up with the gang who have now been shut inside the Bank of Spain for more than 100 hours following the start of the deadly heist.

With The Professor now captured by rogue police officer Alicia Sierra, matters get even worse when a new enemy emerges, the army, as what began as a robbery threatens to turn into an all-out war.

Does Tokyo die in Money Heist season 5?

  • Yes, Tokyo is killed in episode 5 of Money Heist season 5.

During the climactic battle with the Spanish army, Tokyo is shot five times in her arms and legs. She’s in a bad state but doesn’t die initially.

With the army surrounding them, the gang is forced into making their escape through a dumbwaiter in the bank’s kitchen but it’s a six-floor drop and Tokyo doesn’t have the strength to join her crewmates.

Instead, Tokyo stays behind to give the gang some cover and she bravely fights off the advancing soldiers until she’s shot once again.

However, just before she draws her final breath, Tokyo gets the last laugh as she pulls the pins on an entire belt of grenades which explode to kill herself and the surrounding soldiers including Gandia.

With Tokyo now dead, a question mark hangs over the series and who, if anyone, will replace her as narrator.
