Chris Sutton has raved about West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice on Twitter after watching him in action for England last night.

The former Chelsea and Celtic striker believes that Rice, who can also operate as a central defender, was superb for England in their 4-0 win against Hungary.

The 22-year-old scored the Three Lions’ fourth goal in their win in the 2022 World Cup qualifier.

How did Declan Rice play?

Rice has established himself as a key figure in the England midfield and has formed a strong partnership with Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips in the middle of the park for the Three Lions.

The youngster was brilliant for England at the Euro 2020 finals in the summer, and he was back doing his part against Hungary.

Against Hungary, Phillips was allowed to push forward, which led to Rice sitting deep and protecting the England back-line.

Rice stopped Hungary’s attacks and held his own in the middle of the park.

The West Ham star had a pass accuracy of 92.5%, won one header, took 82 touches, and made two tackles, two interceptions and one clearance.

Rice is going from strength and strength, and West Ham really do have an outstanding player.

And he is only 22.

Just imagine how good Rice will be in two or three years’ time.
