There are plenty of good stories to find in the afterlife, which is a theme that the hit series The Good Place took inspiration from. Following a similar thread is Netflix’s new comedy Afterlife of the Party, which adds a whole new meaning to partying hard.
The American actor and singer Victoria Justice stars as the socialite Cassie, who meets her fateful end after a hard night of drinking. Before learning about her fate in the afterlife, a guardian angel gives her five days back on Earth to make amends before her definitive judgment day.
Afterlife of the Party Filming Locations
Afterlife of the Party began filming in October 2020, and wrapped in December of the same year. Filming also took place during the pandemic, meaning strict social distancing and testing protocols would have been in place.
With three production companies involved in making Afterlife of the Party, filming became a supported endeavor throughout the brunt of the pandemic, with budget costs coming in at just below $10 million, according to reports.
Cape Town, South Africa
- Afterlife of the Party was primarily filmed in Cape Town, South Africa, one of the three capitals of the country.
Despite a majority of the film taking place indoors, Cape Town was used as the scenic backdrop to Cassie’s blootered shenanigans, when exterior shots took place. Various hotspots, bars, and restaurants were used to fill out the background of the film’s earlier scenes.
One of the three production companies on board, Advantage Media, was accustomed to shooting in South Africa, after producing Netflix’s action-thriller Santana.
It was reported that most of the interior shots took place within a studio in order to lower costs, with Cape Town appearing in the background every once in a while.
Afterlife of the Party is available to watch now on Netflix.
