Tottenham Hotspur pulled off one signing on transfer deadline day, luring Barcelona right back Emerson Royal to North London.
Fabio Paratici and Nuno Espirito Santo were keen to bring in a right back, and Tottenham had held talks for days over a deal for Emerson.
Tottenham got the deal done in the end, freeing up Serge Aurier to have his contract terminated before the transfer deadline.
Emerson will now compete with Matt Doherty and Japhet Tanganga in Nuno’s starting XI, and you’d imagine he will nail down the role quickly.
The 22-year-old impressed at Real Betis last season, and only joined Barcelona this summer having been at the centre of a co-ownership deal between the two Spanish clubs.
Emerson may have been hoping to break through with Barca, but he has now been sold with Ronald Koeman preferring Sergino Dest and Sergi Roberto.
Emerson seemingly made a big impact around the club in his short time at Barca, with teammates taking to Instagram to react after hearing about the move.
Defender Ronald Araujo was emotional, stating ‘go on brother, I’ll miss you’, whilst fellow Brazilian Philippe Coutinho added ‘Brother may God bless you always, you are a star! You will be missed’.
Everton ace Richarlison also wished Emerson luck at Tottenham, even though the two Brazilian stars will end up going up against each other when Tottenham face Everton in November and March.
