What is the best way to start the weekend?
We’re sure you have plenty of answers, but if “having a good laugh” isn’t one of them then, well, your Friday night may be lacking.
Whether you’re winding down from the working week or apprehensively approaching those dreaded weekend shifts, it’s always nice to have some great comedy on the box.
Fortunately, audiences have an exciting new title to look forward to in The Cleaner.
It stars such beloved talents as Greg Davies (Taskmaster), David Mitchell (Peep Show), and Helena Bonham Carter… you’ve all seen at least one Tim Burton film, surely?
If you’re not sold on the cast then perhaps the hilariously twisted premise will do it for you. However, before we get into that, it’s worth knowing how to actually tune in. So, let’s highlight The Cleaner BBC release date.
The Cleaner BBC release date
- Episode 1 of The Cleaner airs on BBC One at 9.30 pm on Friday, September 10th 2021. There are six episodes in total and they are set to premiere weekly.
Taking this into consideration, audiences can expect to catch the finale of this brand new creation on Friday, October 15th 2021.
Although it’s brand new, you may be surprised to learn that it’s inspired by a German series called Der Tatortreiniger, translating to Crime Scene Cleaner.
We know what you’re thinking: “that doesn’t really sound like a barrel of laughs”. Nevertheless, those with a taste for the more sinister side of comedy will surely find something to cherish.
Greg Davies leads the cast as Paul ‘Wicky’ Wickstead, a crime scene cleaner, and we follow him as he encounters a diverse array of characters, “from the victims’ relatives, employers, neighbours, and acquaintances, to occasionally even the murderers themselves,” as addressed by the BBC.
When will The Cleaner be on BBC iPlayer?
All six episodes of The Cleaner will be available on iPlayer once the series begins airing on BBC One on Friday, September 10th 2021.
So, if episode 1 satisfies then you can simply choose to binge the 30-minute episodes in one night. Of course, you can always watch an episode or two at your own convenience throughout the week too.
Ah, the joys of iPlayer!
Blood and beer…
The Radio Times has included some insight from Greg himself, who has explained that “to Wicky, a bloodbath is just an obstacle between him and his next pint.”
Delving into the process of sculpting The Cleaner, he weighed in:
“Each episode is generally a two-hand ‘play’. I mistakenly thought this would be easier than writing for multiple characters. It is not! It was nice to just focus on Wicky and the person he encounters each week though.”
He added: “It’s a challenge to make them rounded and to give context to the dreadful events that have led them to be spending time with a crime-scene cleaner.”
The Cleaner begins on BBC One on Friday, September 10th 2021 at 9.30 pm.
