According to The Athletic, Tottenham don’t think they’re going to be able to find a buyer for Serge Aurier before the transfer deadline.
Spurs have been trying to sell Aurier all summer long, with the Ivorian being linked to the likes of Real Betis and RC Lens, but now they’re resigned to the fact he’ll be staying with the club until at least January.
Aurier is going to struggle to get a game in the coming months if reports of Emerson Royal’s impending arrival are to be believed.
Emerson is coming in as a new right-back, while Japhet Tanganga also seems to have usurped him in the pecking order.
That’s before we even mention Matt Doherty, a former favourite of Nuno Espirito Santo’s, who is also expected to stay according to The Athletic.
As much as we hate to say it, we can understand why Spurs want to shift Aurier. After all, this is a player labelled an ‘absolute liability’ by Jamie O’Hara last season.
Aurier is by no means a bad player, and on his day he’s a real handful when he’s utilised as an attacking full-back, but his defensive frailties are there for all to see, and with Nuno looking to utilise a more pragmatic approach, he may not be a good fit.
