Hector Bellerin will reportedly take a pay cut to leave Arsenal to join Real Betis on loan for the season.
According to Goal, the Spanish international will accept a decrease in wage to complete a transfer to the Seville-based club. Bellerin was reportedly a fan of Betis when he was a child, and both the defender and Arsenal want a transfer to happen.
Bellerin is one of multiple players Arsenal are hoping to sell today. Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Sead Kolasinac and Reiss Nelson could all depart the Emirates before tonight’s 11 pm deadline. Eddie Nketiah could also leave north London.
Indeed, with Arsenal having three right-backs in the squad, a departure for Bellerin seems incredibly likely. And it appears that the defender will take a similar decision that Willian did earlier this week.
The Brazilian winger left Arsenal whilst also taking a huge pay cut to return to Brazil. Willian had two years left on his contract with the Gunners before mutually agreeing with the club to terminate it.
Like Willian, Bellerin was one of the top earners at Arsenal. The defender earned a reported £100,000-a-week.
Bellerin moving to Betis could also open the door for Arsenal to sign a new right-back. And according to the Athletic, the club are already in talks to sign Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.
The Japanese international was a target for Tottenham earlier in the window. However, Arsenal’s north London rivals have now moved on to FC Barcelona defender Emerson Royal, who is expected to sign for Spur today.
