Jamie Carragher told Sky Sports that James Rodriguez is a ‘huge problem’ for Everton boss Rafa Benitez on transfer deadline day.
The former defender thinks Rodriguez is ‘not in Rafa’s plans’ and he can’t see him earning the game time at Everton if he stays put.
The 30-year-old is yet to feature for the Toffees this season and it doesn’t look like that will change.
He has until 11 pm on Tuesday to move out of Goodison Park, else he will be spending a lot of his time on Twitch rather than the pitch.
Carragher was handed players names such as Rodriguez, Tanguy Ndombele, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Jesse Lingard, and asked who needs a move, as he issued this response about the Everton man.
“I think all of them really,” said Carragher. “I don’t think you can choose one. The fact that you mentioned them all, they are players who want to go and play football.
“I think Rodriguez has a huge problem at Everton. He’s not in Rafa’s plan, at all. I think the other players you mentioned will get minutes.”
Rodriguez may have arrived on Merseyside as a big name, but in truth, his signing just hasn’t worked out.
The former Real Madrid man produced standard performances at the start of his Everton tenure and then he couldn’t get his engine going as he tried to deal with injuries.
Carlo Ancelotti’s surprise departure at the start of the summer perhaps also signalled an end to his reign at Goodison Park.
And given that Benitez could do with creative talent in his midfield, the fact that he is not picking the player given that situation, then that in itself says it all.
